Cell Phones for
Soldiers
The
2009 Maryland Teen Expo is pleased to announce that
keynote speakers, 18 year old, Brittany Bergquist and
her 17 year old brother, Robbie Bergquist, along with
their parents, will be attending and speaking at our
event on April 11, 2009. They will share with us their
entrepreneurial and personal journey of establishing and
maintaining Cell Phones for Soldiers.
A non-profit organization, Cell Phones
for Soldiers, was created out of the compassionate and
entrepreneurial spirit of these two empowered teens in
2004. Recognizing a need for one U.S. soldier serving in
Iraq to be able to call his family and friends without
spending thousands of dollars in cell phone minutes,
Brittany and Robbie began collecting donations to start
a fund to pay his cell phone bill. Five years later,
this humble concept has turned into a worldwide
organization that collects recyclable cell phones and
monetary donations nationwide and in Canada to buy
prepaid cell phone calling cards to be distributed to
all branches of our military servicemen worldwide.
In every sense of the word, Brittany and
Robbie have become true American heroes who successfully
juggle their school and personal schedules to provide a
service that reaches out to so many. Traveling and being
interviewed nationwide, these two teens have been
presented with various awards, invited to the White
House and the Pentagon and have appeared and been
written about by the likes of Fox News, CBS Evening News
with Katie Couric, Army Wife Talk Radio, MSNBC, Money
Magazine, Teen People and Teen Magazines just to name a
few.
